OUT OF THE ASHES

An evening with Lillian Michiko Blakey

Lillian Michiko Blakey is a sansei, a third generation Canadian. She is also an artist whose work tells the story of her family’s experience during the Japanese internment in Canada and the repercussions that reverberated through the generations.
Out of the Ashes is Lillian’s personal and artistic journey into another phase of coming to terms with her identity as a proud Canadian - not a hyphenated Canadian straddling two cultures.

Lillian Michiko Blakey’s work can be found in the Government  of Ontario Art Collection and the Nikkei National Museum in Burnaby, BC. Most recently, her art was embraced at the Royal Ontario Museum in its iconic and courageous exhibition,
"Being Japanese Canadian: reflections in a broken world".
